Oh it has been busy, busy, busy this week. I'm just now finding time to write a quick post for you and then tomorrow, I'm likely to be busy all day. Maybe Friday I'll have some more time for a posting - we'll see :)
I was reading "the" cookbook and got to the part about poultry. It very accurately describes cooking chicken feet as the best source for broth - how about that? I knew it was a good source because of "The Nourished Kitchen" posting but this book dates back to 1938 and regards it just as well. It even tells how to remove the feet from the leg bone and how to remove the skin from the feet. The feet I get already have the skin removed, but just in case I get one of those fresh chickens, I'll know what to do. Bountiful information in this book!! I have my pages marked all over the place and can't wait to get cooking.
My straw bales are ready to be set in place. I decided to put them by the flagpole instead of the gate. That way they will be right beside my little flower garden that is in a dormant stage until springtime.
I picked up a few pumpkins and gourds yesterday so I can arrange them on the bales this afternoon when I get home. The pumpkin patch was incredible! I mean this lady has all manner of shape, size and color. Which means she also has all manner of price tag on them too... :( I think I paid $9.99 for a pumpkin that was a super-deep orange color, probably 6-8 inches tall, at least a foot wide and weighing in at around 10 pounds. Another pumpkin was a grayish-white color, smaller than the orange one but taller. It probably weighed 7-8 pounds and will stack on top of the other one just perfectly. I found a green spotted gourd that is shaped like a goose neck and another weird looking, bumpy, yellow and green bell shaped squash (I guess?) that looked cool with the other stuff. In all, it was $19.71 for my purchases. Not bad but not what I expected. Really, I don't know what I expected but since they look so pretty together, it seems worth it.
People around here really get crazy with the decorations out by their mailboxes or just set up in their front yards. Some people have 10-12 bales out there with pumpkins, gourds, scarecrows, flowers, flags, etc. stacked all on them. Who knows what they spend on all that stuff. They look nice but way too busy for me. I'm going for the simpler look as you'll see when I post the pictures. For now I'll go back to using Wally's phone.
It was cold again this morning, dropping to 38 degrees overnight. I think the high was supposed to be 77 and then tonight it's supposed to only be in the 40s. The weekend promises temperatures near 80 so we should be outside as much as we can be. In Centerville, they're having a "Cowboy Ribeye Cookout" Friday night. I have no idea what all goes on but the banner said it was in the town square (where there's a statue of Minnie Pearl who is from Centerville) and it's from 4-7pm. We might just have to check it out :)
Well, folks, it's time for me to hit the road. I'll try to get on tomorrow for just a little while if it's at all possible. Today's quote comes compliments of Beverly. It may not be related to the posting but I really liked it when I read it. Enjoy!
