Come along with me if you will.

While I won't be able to update this blog EVERY day, I will try to post updates at least 2-3 times a week. I wouldn't want you to get bored with my ramblings.

Time for the Daylilies to bloom...

Yes, it's true!! The Daylily in the front yard has so many blooms on it I couldn't count them all - woo hoo!! They aren't open yet but the opening is not far away. I can't wait to see them and you will definitely be seeing pictures posted soon. The Daylilies in the back yard don't have buds on them but no doubt they'll appear any day now. I may not have Bradford Pear trees or Red Bud trees or even Daffodils or Irises but I am ate up with Daylilies!! (sorry about the grammar - it just worked better that way) I have Tiger Lilies too but they don't have buds on them yet either. Soon, soon, soon...

I had to take the interstate home again last night. I'm so glad that's not my only option because it's no fun at all. Although I will say that I got a good view of one of the flooded rivers. It has receded some but man that's a whole lot of water! It's a wonder to me where it all goes. Wally called a little while ago and said Hwy. 100 is open for travel. Thank goodness I have my little 2 lane road back :)  As it turns out, I need to stop at Publix tonight and it's off Hwy. 100 so there's another plus. Saved me a trip to the dreaded Wal-Mart. Aaccckkk!

The gas prices went up to $2.89 in some places, which is just ridiculous, but I found it for $2.73 this morning. I don't understand why one station charges $2.73 and across the street and down the road a little ways the next one charges $2.89????????  They have issued an 800 number we can call to report price gouging - maybe I'll just report that station. Surely they don't want me to have to write a nasty letter about them... LOL!

I made it home in an hour and 15 minutes. YUCK. As I was coming down the driveway, Wally was coming up on the tractor (the one I'm going to learn to drive) and was getting ready to mow the grass along side the driveway. All that fresh cut grass just smells soooooo wonderful. When he finished the driveway, he came and cut down the saplings that had grown in my garden area - makes me feel like we might actually get something in the ground before too long (???) We still have to get the little stumps out and run the tiller through it but all in good time. Everyone here seems to think it's still too soon for me to plant although they all agree it's time to get the ground ready. I guess I'm just anxious coming from Florida where it's already almost to late to plant anything for fear of the heat killing it. It must be ingrained in my head because I think about it all the time. I'm considering buying another Farmer's Almanac so I can be up on all things farm related for this zone.

Ernie gave me a beautiful Farmer's Almanac calendar and it hangs proudly in Ma Vernie's bedroom. It just goes with all the antique stuff so that's where I hung it. I look at it every day to see what I can learn. It has moon phases, quotes about gardening, tips on what to plant and all sorts of old adages that go along with planting, farming and various plants in the garden. So far it's been right on the money when it comes to telling me what to look for as it blooms so THANK YOU VERY MUCH MARTHA E. LYMI.

We made it to Pee Wee's last night and naturally stayed longer than we had originally planned. When we went to leave, the lights on the motorcycle wouldn't come on. Well, we still had some daylight ahead of us so off we went meandering around the back roads. Don't worry Mom, it really was light enough. However, as it started getting darker, we came to a place in the road where it was blocked due to flooding. We didn't know it would be blocked because it wasn't listed on the any of the news releases. Well, we pulled over and figured we might as well work on the lights because we were going to have to take the only road available and we had never been down it before. We figured it would be better to see what we were going to hit at this point. ha ha just kidding.

We were stopped at the foot of a driveway and sure enough the man of the house came out to see what we were up to. He wasn't carrying a gun that we could see so we felt somewhat safe. He did have a flashlight which came in handy and once Wally told him about the headlights, he went and got some tools for Wally to work with. Wally rarely leaves his tool bag at home and neither of us knew why he did last night but so be it. It took him all of about 15 minutes and we we had lights. There's just not much he can't fix - it's amazing to me because there's not much I can fix - except dinner. ha ha ha ha ha!

We thanked the man who helped us and he also told us to stay on this road all the way to the end and we would be at Hwy. 7. Hwy 7 crosses Hwy. 100 so we knew where we would be when we got that far. It was pretty cool going that way and now that we know it, we'll use it more often. It seems like it might be a little quicker getting to Pee Wee's that way depending on where we start. All in all it was a nice night; the weather was perfect, the bike ran fine (with that one little exception of the headlight issue) and Pee Wee's was packed. There had to have been at least 15-20 people there.

We got home, ate some leftover pork chops, watched Criminal Minds (a re-run, what the heck is up with that?) and went to bed. I couldn't sleep that early but I had left my magazine (Southern Living) downstairs and didn't feel like going to get it. So I just stayed in bed and watched more tv until I finally dozed off into a nice little buzzed slumber zzzzzzzzz.

4:15 am comes awfully early after being out until 8:00 the night before and awake until what, 10:00ish? LOL it sounds funny but it's true! Up and at 'em again... I have most of my folded clothes upstairs now. The stuff on hangers is still in the living room hanging under the bridge. I hear the closet will have a rod in it before too long so I can hang my hanging stuff in it... won't that be nice? LOL If I'm lucky maybe some shelves will be hung too. Oh the joy of it :)

I didn't bring my lunch with me today. I wanted to get on the road early since I had to take the interstate so I went and picked up a sub from Subway. Big mistake. Let me just say my stomach has issues okay? I know better than to eat fast food - McDonalds is way out of the question but I thought I'd be safe with Subway. It's veggies, meat, cheese and bread, hello. Yeah, try telling my stomach that. Good grief the people around me could probably hear it rumbling lol.  It was like eating sausage. Bad, bad, bad. I'm back to making my lunch tomorrow and from here on out unless Wally comes to town for a Dr's appt. Then, I pretty much have to go meet him for lunch. He won't take me to a fast food place though. He knows what it does to me. Jeez you would think I'd be a size 2 for as healthy as I eat but nope. Far from it folks.

Horseback riding planned for this weekend, rain or shine. You're welcome to come join us. I'll be riding Smokey, who's sure to be in a very pleasant mood once I get on him. lol  Wally rides Rebel because it bothers his back to ride Smokey. It doesn't bother my back to ride either of them and besides, I'm trying to work on getting Smokey to come to me. If you've met him, you know that this is close to impossible and you also know that I'll be at it for a while so don't expect miracles if/when you do come up. I imagine I'll go through many a bag of carrots and who knows how many sugar cubes before he even comes close. But I have plenty of time.

I took chicken out for dinner. I don't know what we'll have with it but I'm thinking I'll cut it into strips and saute it with some peppers, mushrooms, broccoli and onions. I think I have some italian seasoning that would be good on it too. No rice for us but we could put it over egg noodles... hmmm, we'll see.

Neccy - I hope you're feeling better. Please tell Jack and the kids I said hello. I'd love an updated picture of Sara's belly....?

For those of you who have done friend requests via Facebook, please remember that I can't get to FB from my work computer and we don't have the internet at home yet. That'll be my project as soon as Wally has some free time to meet with the U-Verse installation people. So that's why I haven't accepted you as a friend... lol  I do have Rebecca go in on occasion and clean things up just to keep it active.

I hope if you are at work that your Thursday goes by quickly so you can get home. If you are at home, I hope your Thursday lingers so you can enjoy each hour to its fullest.

Thought for the day...

  2. Not gonna write much because so far I don't think anything has gone through but I'll keep trying until I get it right! Do love reading your blog. It's really neat. I would do one but all it would say would be, "stayed home, did nothing. Feeling a little better. Watched TV." When I get a life, I'll start one!
